Why check before you submit
Turnitin doesn't show students their AI score
Turnitin's AI report goes to your instructor, not to you. The first time you learn your essay was flagged may be an academic-integrity meeting. A pre-submission check removes that surprise.
False positives are real
In our monthly benchmark, Turnitin's AI detection runs a 12.1% false positive rate — the second-highest of the ten detectors we test, and studies show ESL writers get flagged even more. Fully human essays get flagged; knowing your score first lets you document your process.
Sentence-level, not a black box
Turnitin gives your instructor a percentage. We show you which sentences drive the score — so a flagged intro paragraph is a five-minute fix, not a mystery.
Private by design
Your text is not added to any database, not shared with any institution, and not used to train models on identifiable submissions. Check your own work privately.
Stricter than Turnitin on AI text
Our engine scores 95.2% overall accuracy vs Turnitin AI's 83.8% in the same 500-sample benchmark. If your text passes here, it has cleared a higher bar than the one your school uses.

Turnitin AI checker FAQ
Is this the same AI detector Turnitin uses?
No — Turnitin's exact model is proprietary and only available to institutions. This is an independent detector benchmarked monthly against Turnitin AI on identical samples. Because our engine is stricter on AI text (95.2% vs 83.8% detection accuracy in our benchmark), text that scores low here is very likely to score low in Turnitin too — that's what makes it useful as a pre-submission check.
If my essay passes here, will it pass Turnitin?
No detector can guarantee another detector's output, but the relationship is strongly in your favor: our engine detects more AI text than Turnitin does in head-to-head benchmarks, so clearing our check means clearing a stricter bar. The bigger risk is the reverse — human writing being falsely flagged by Turnitin — which is why we show sentence-level detail you can use to revise defensively and document your drafting process.
Is this Turnitin AI checker really free?
Yes. Your first scan requires no account, and free accounts get daily scan credits — enough to check and revise an essay before a deadline. Pro ($9.99/month) removes limits for heavy users. Turnitin itself offers no student-facing way to pre-check an AI score at any price.
Will scanning my essay here get it flagged for plagiarism later?
No. Unlike some checkers, we do not add scanned text to a similarity database, so checking your draft here cannot cause a future plagiarism match against your own submission. Your text is processed for the scan and not retained for matching.
What AI percentage is safe to submit?
There is no universal threshold — Turnitin historically highlights documents above 20% AI, but policies vary by institution and instructor. Our guide on what percentage of AI is acceptable breaks down how to read your score. As a rule: if whole paragraphs are highlighted, rewrite them in your own voice before submitting.
I wrote my essay myself. Can it still get flagged?
Yes — that's the false positive problem. Formal academic register, ESL phrasing, and heavily-templated structures (five-paragraph essays, lab reports) all push text toward 'AI-like' statistics. If your own writing scores high here, keep version history and notes as evidence of your process, and consider varying sentence length and word choice in flagged passages.
