AI Detector With No Word Limit: What “Unlimited” Really Means (2026)

Most people searching for an AI detector with no word limit have a 40-page document and a text box that stops at a few hundred words. Here is why every checker has a cap, why long documents used to be scored badly even when they fit, and how to scan up to 25,000 words in one pass.

Short answer

No detector is truly unlimited. What matters is whether the cap fits your document and whether the tool scores long text correctly. aidetectors.io scans 500 words as a guest, 1,000 words on a free account and 25,000 words per scan on Pro, scored section by section, with DOCX and PDF upload.

Why every AI detector has a word limit

  • Compute. A good detector runs a language model over your text. Cost and latency scale with length, so free tiers cap input to stay free.
  • Accuracy saturates. Detectors combine a model judgment with pattern heuristics: repeated sentence openers, stock phrases, punctuation habits. Those counters are calibrated for essay-length text. Feed them 10,000 words and the counts hit their ceiling, which is how a long human-written document ends up scored as mostly AI.
  • Highlights need a budget. Sentence-level highlighting is the useful part of a scan. Scoring every sentence of a book chapter individually is slow, so tools either stop early or paint everything after a point the same colour.

“Unlimited” in a detector’s marketing usually means one of two things: unlimited scans of a short box, or a long box that is silently truncated. Check the tool’s pricing page for the per-scan number before pasting a thesis.

The long-document problem, with numbers

When a Pro customer sent us a 14,000-word Word document with tables in September 2026, it hit our old 5,000-word wall. Raising the limit was the easy part. The harder finding was that our whole-document scoring was wrong on long text even when it fit. In an offline test, a document assembled entirely from human-written passages crossed the pattern counters’ ceiling at around 3,000 words, and from there the blended score was floored near 77% AI regardless of what the judge model returned.

The fix was to score documents in sections of roughly 600 to 850 words, split on paragraph boundaries, and average the section scores by length. On the same corpus that moved a long human document from a floor of 77 to about 9, while raw AI text stayed around 45. A live check on the production engine scored a 14,000-word human document at 42 and a 14,000-word AI document at 77, each in about 12 seconds. Not perfect, but now the number means something.

25,000 words is roughly 100 double-spaced pages, or a full dissertation chapter with appendices. Long scans return a section-by-section breakdown, and the sentence highlights are sampled evenly through the document rather than stopping at the first page. Sentences that were not sampled are shown in neutral grey, not painted orange.

How to scan a long document

  1. Open the AI detector and either paste the text or upload the DOCX or PDF. Headings, paragraph breaks and table rows are preserved during extraction.
  2. Read the overall score as a whole-document average, then scroll the section breakdown. A single high-scoring section in an otherwise human report is the signal to look at.
  3. Click through the highlighted sentences. Long documents get a bigger highlight budget, but the point is still the same: the flagged lines are where to look, the number is not a verdict.
  4. If you are checking your own writing before submission, rewrite the flagged sections in your own words and re-scan only those sections. That is faster than re-running the whole file and shows you whether the edit worked.

Reading scores on long text

Length changes what a score means. On 300 words a score of 70 is a strong signal. On 20,000 words a score of 70 usually means several sections are generated and the rest is not, which is a different conversation. Use the same scale we use everywhere: 25 or below reads as human, 66 or above as likely AI, and the middle is mixed. Then rely on the sections and highlights. Frequently asked questions

Is there an AI detector with no word limit?

Not truly. Every detector caps input because each scan costs compute and because long texts need to be scored in sections to stay accurate. The practical question is whether the cap fits your document. Our Pro plan scans 25,000 words in one pass, which covers a thesis chapter, a long report or roughly 100 double-spaced pages.

How many words can the free AI detector check?

Guest scans take up to 500 words with no account. A free account raises that to 1,000 words per scan with daily credits. Pro raises the limit to 25,000 words per scan and removes the daily cap.

Can I upload a Word or PDF file instead of pasting?

Yes. Upload a DOCX or PDF up to 20 MB and the detector extracts the text with headings, paragraphs and tables preserved, so a long report is scored the way it is written rather than as one collapsed block.

Why did my long document score as almost all AI?

Older whole-document scoring saturated. Pattern counters that work on a 400-word essay hit their ceiling after a few thousand words of ordinary prose, so a long human-written document could be floored at a high AI score no matter what the judge model said. Scoring per section fixed that.

Does splitting a document into sections make detection less accurate?

The opposite. Each 600 to 850-word section is scored on its own and the results are averaged by length, so a report that is 90% yours with one generated section shows up as mostly human with that section highlighted, instead of a single misleading number.

Is the humanizer limit the same?

No. The humanizer rewrites up to 5,000 words per run on Pro because rewriting is a heavier job than scoring and long rewrites need reviewing anyway. The detector limit is 25,000 words.
